MARK POOLE - DIRECTOR, DOCUMENTARIES
I've been directing documentaries for 20 years.
For three years I worked at the ABC writing and directing documentary series. Great fun!
I co-produced, directed and wrote (with Rob George) the documentary FEARLESS which screened last year on Ovation and will screen later this year on ABC.
I have directed two half hour docs on Autlism, and the short documentary Birth of a Film Festival, about the beginning of the Melbourne Film Festival at Olinda in 1952.
I have worked on a diverse range of programs for a number of different production companies, as well as my own.
Recently I was asked to go to India to direct a documentary for a Mumbai-based production company. This involved spending five weeks in India, travelling around the country researching, writing and then directing the film. It is currently in post production.
Often I write what I'm directing, and I find a certain joy in working this way, planning the shoot while doing research, revising the script in post. But sometimes I direct what other people have written, and other times I write what others direct.
Every project is different in its own way.
