MARK POOLE - DIRECTOR & WRITER OF DRAMA
I've directed and written a lot of drama projects over the years.
The short film I directed, Basically Speaking, won a prize at the St Kilda Film Festival.
I have directed a number of other shorts, including several half hour dramas.
I am currently developing a feature film I will direct.
But as well as directing drama, I have a substantial track record as a drama writer too.
I got into the industry by writing a feature film which attracted development money from the Australian Film Commission, and was picked up by production house Australian Film Theatre. A Single Life was shot on film and directed by John Power (The Picture Show Man, Father.) It won an AFI Award, sold to more than 30 territories around the world, and screened as a telefeature on the BBC and the ABC here in Australia.
I have written more than 20 hours of broadcast drama for a variety of production companies and networks, including the ABC, SBS and Network Seven.
I have also written extensively for children's television, including the productions Silver Sun, Gloria's House and Chuck Finn.
As well as writing films and television, I work as a script editor and script assessor for the funding agencies and also the AWG.
